Red Oak fossil Fm
This flute is carved entirely by hand from Red Oak and has an Orthoceras fossil mounted on a piece of walnut for the block. The finger holes have been burned in and are dished for easy playing. Between the block and the finger holes is a freeform cedar inlay with a moss agate cabochon. This flute has fairly thick walls and large finger holes, which gives it a nice solid tone and also makes it one heavy flute!

Bm Japanese Knotweed flute
Japanese Knotweed canes have nodes in them just like bamboo or river cane and can be made into flutes in a similar fashion. This flute is made from a piece of knotweed cane collected from the the banks of the Snohomish river after the bush had died back for the season. It has a mouthpiece made from a spalted branch that is most likely maple, and a simple block also made from a natural branch. The fingerholes are burned in and are not dished. Knotweed is somewhat fragile, although this piece has been stabilized prior to finishing. This flute would not likely survive being stepped on, but will withstand normal usage with no problem.

High Am pendant flute
This high Am flute is only 8.25 inches long. The body is made from Alaska Yellow Cedar and the endcaps and block are made from purpleheart. These flutes include a sturdy leather necklace which passes through a specially made hole in the flute body itself and allows the flute to be worn as a pendant. Unlike the majority of our flutes, machine tools are used to bore and do the rough shaping, which allows us to offer them for a lower price. However, the windway and fingerholes are burned in by hand and the fingerholes are dished for easy playing. The fingerholes are quite closely spaced (around 5/8 inch from center to center), but are playable by adults with average sized hands.

SOLD!
Am Cedar "Divided Bore" Double
This is a double flute in the form factor of a single flute. It has two semi-circular bores -- the top one is fingered to produce the melody while the bottom bore plays a drone note. This flute has two blow holes so that the melody flute can be played independently of the drone if desired. It is completely hand carved in nicely grained Western Red Cedar heartwood with a strip of poplar dividing the two bores. Both blocks are carved from zebrawood and the flute features a decorative diamond shaped inlay in abalone and mother of pearl. The finger holes are burned in and dished for easy playing and the drone bore features a thumb hole which can be used to raise the drone from A to E.

SOLD!
B-flat Driftwood Root Flute
This flute is made from a very dense, heavy piece of big leaf maple root taken from a maple that had succumbed to the spring floods and been carried down the Skykomish river. It is characteristically crooked and misshapen where the root had to move around rocks as it grew. The block is similarly made from another piece of driftwood root, perhaps from another maple or maybe a red alder. The finger holes are burned in and comfortably dished.

SOLD!
B-flat Driftwood Flute

High E Elderberry Flute
This flute is made from a piece of heavily spalted blue elderberry wood taken from a dead branch of a huge elderberry bush on my parent's land in the Columbia Gorge. Features a poplar mouthpiece and a block made from alaska yellow cedar and petrified wood. Nice character with a "crook" mid-bore. Our elderberry flutes are constructed by burning the soft pithy center of the elderberry branch out with hot metal rod. The fingerholes are burned in and slightly dished.
